I have just found out I’m pregnant
Anyone who may be pregnant is advised to see a doctor in the first weeks and start follow-up. Pregnancy follow-up (prenatal care) is the monitoring of the health of mother and baby throughout pregnancy with regular examinations, screening and counseling; its aim is to notice possible problems early.
At the practice
- Examinations, pregnancy ultrasound and 4D ultrasound are done at the practice.
- Which blood and screening tests are needed, and when, is explained during your visit.
- Your partner can attend the examinations with you.
- Pregnancy follow-up can be in Turkish or English.
You can continue follow-up that started with another doctor at the practice; it helps to bring your previous test results and ultrasound reports.

I want to see my baby on ultrasound
4D ultrasound is not a separate scan; it is used during a pregnancy ultrasound done for a medical reason. A pregnancy ultrasound assesses the baby’s heartbeat, gestational age and growth; 2D ultrasound is the basis of the organ examination.
At the practice
- Pregnancy ultrasound and 3D/4D imaging are done; the findings are explained to you during the examination.
- If you wish, the images can be given to you as printouts or transferred to your phone.
- A detailed (level II) anomaly scan is not done at the practice; you are referred for this examination.
An abdominal pregnancy ultrasound usually requires no special preparation; if any is needed, you will be told in advance.

I’m going to my first gynecological examination
A gynecological examination assesses the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus and ovaries. Each step of the examination is explained beforehand and goes ahead with your consent; if you wish, a break can be taken.
At the practice
- The examination and ultrasound (transvaginal and abdominal) are done at the same appointment.
- The examination room has a privacy curtain and a sink/toilet; the nurse prepares you before the examination.
- A healthcare assistant is present during the examination; if you wish, a relative can also stay in the room.
- For patients who have not had sexual intercourse, no internal examination is done; if needed, only an external examination is done.
For your first visit, you only need to bring your ID; if you have records of previous tests and ultrasounds, you can bring them too.

My Pap smear or HPV result was abnormal
After a suspicious Pap smear result or persistent HPV positivity, the next step may be colposcopy. Colposcopy is an examination of the cervix under magnification and light; if a suspicious area is seen, a small tissue sample (biopsy) may be taken.
At the practice
- Colposcopy and, if needed, biopsy are done at the practice.
- Colposcopy is not done during your period; the appointment is scheduled for after the bleeding has stopped.
- The biopsy result is reviewed with you at a follow-up visit.
A positive HPV result or having a colposcopy does not by itself mean you have cancer; HPV is common and most infections clear on their own.

We are having difficulty getting pregnant
Infertility is not getting pregnant despite regular unprotected intercourse. Because the cause may lie with the woman, the man or both, the evaluation is done with both partners taking part.
When is an evaluation recommended?
- Under 35: if you have not become pregnant after one year of regular unprotected intercourse
- 35 and over: sooner, after six months
- If periods are irregular, very infrequent or absent: without waiting
At the practice, the process starts with an initial consultation, a gynecological examination and an ultrasound; if needed, ovulation monitoring by ultrasound follows. The right timing for you is decided together during your visit.

I want to choose a birth control method
Family planning is the assessment of methods for preventing pregnancy and timing pregnancy, taking into account your health and expectations. There is no single right method for everyone.
At the practice
- IUD insertion and removal are done at the practice.
- Contraceptive implants are placed at the practice.
- If considered appropriate, a prescription is written for emergency contraception.
- Permanent methods such as tubal ligation are not done at the practice; they are done surgically in a hospital.
A suitable method for you is discussed after considering together your age, the medicines you take and whether you can use the method regularly.

Surgery has been recommended and I want to know my options
Gynecological surgery covers operations for benign conditions such as fibroids, cysts, endometriosis, abnormal bleeding and pelvic organ prolapse. Most fibroids and cysts that cause no symptoms do not require surgery; they are monitored first.
At the practice
- Conditions that may require surgery are evaluated with an examination and ultrasound.
- Whether surgery is needed and what the options are is discussed with you during your visit.
- If needed, the post-operative check-up is done at the practice.
Operations are done in a hospital, not at the practice.
